Considerable emphasis is placed not only on Traditional and Modern Chinese literature but also on the teaching and research of Modern Taiwan culture and literature. At present, there are more than twenty Taiwan culture-related courses available. The Department and its Graduate Program are the first in Taiwan to include ¡§Introduction to Taiwan Culture¡¨ and ¡§History of Taiwan Literature¡¨ in the required courses. In the field of native culture study, that is second-to-none among the more than twenty Chinese Literature Departments in Taiwan. Even though the Department places emphasis on literature study, it never ignores the importance of practical skills. Courses such as ¡§Chinese Word Processing,¡¨ ¡§News Reporting,¡¨ A-V Communications,¡¨ ¡§Performance,¡¨ and ten other related ones are offered. Work-related facilities are being implemented to assist student in mastering the skills they will need for future career. Courses such as ¡§Arts and Folklore Literature¡¨ are also included to develop students¡¦ humanistic refinement, and to spread the seeds of concern for native culture and cultural practices. In addition to these, students are also required to have a general knowledge of Western Literature. British and American Literature and Japanese Literature are offered to extend the students¡¦ perspective in their understanding of literature.

Students who have fulfilled the basic requirements and have been conferred a B.A. degree can work in the following fields
