Bishop Martin Yao-Wen Su received his seminary training at St. Thomas Major Seminary in Taipei and at the Theologate of Fu Jen University (1979-1983; 1985-1988). During his seminary years, his ministry experiences were at Mercy Hospice in Changhua (1983-84), and at the PPI (Populorum Progressio Institute) in Taichung (1984-85).
On June 8,1989 he was ordained to the Priesthood at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Taichung, Taiwan.
Following Ordination, Father Su served one year as acting pastor in the Changhua parish, and one year as acting pastor in Pei-tou and Lo-tsuo parishes. In 1991, he was appointed pastor of the Yuanlin parish, where he served for two years.
In 1993-94, Father Su studied in the United States, at the Institute of Religious Formation of St. Louis University, after which (1994-96) he earned a Master of Science Degree at the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education at Fordham University. While in New York, he served as Coordinator of the Youth Organization at Our Lady of China Church in New York City.
In 1996-97 he studied Private School Administration at the School of Education of the University of San Francisco.
After returning to Taiwan in 1997, Father Su served as secretary to the Dean of General Affairs at Providence University until 2000, when he was appointed Dean of General Affairs, serving in that capacity until 2006.
From August 2006 until his Installation as Bishop of Taichung in 2007, Father Su ministered as Director of Campus Ministry at Providence University.
