College of Foreign Languages and Literature

Group: Foreign language
International Admission: Bachelor (Degree), Master (Degree)

The Department of Spanish Language and Literature officially became a department in 1990. However, Spanish language and literature for undergraduates has been taught at Providence University since 1983. In 1999, a Masters Program was successfully launched. The highest standards are reflected in the faculty, curricula, and hardware and software facilities due to the efforts of everyone in the department.

Taiwan is a member of the WTO (World Trade Organization) and is a major player in the global community. Many of the countries that have diplomatic relations with Taiwan are Spanish-speaking and the number of domestic industries investing in Latin America has increased every year. Corresponding to this urgent need of the Taiwanese government, private organizations and other countries for Spanish-speaking professionals, our objective is to train students to be proficient in Spanish.

The department also promotes an understanding of professional Spanish through courses in culture, literature, linguistics and interpretation. Furthermore, it sponsors domestic and international academic lectures, seminars and conferences that encourage academic research and exchange. Small class sizes, e-learning, and interdepartmental programs in areas involving tourism, mass communication, international trade, and international relations are highly encouraged by the department.
