International Admission: Bachelor (Degree)
The Department of Japanese Language and Literature expects students to have a thorough knowledge of Japanese culture as well as solid competency in the Japanese language upon graduation. The aim of the curriculum design for freshmen and sophomores is to strengthen basic language proficiency and most of the courses are required.
During the junior and senior years, students may choose from three major areas: 1) language, literature, and culture; 2) business practice; or 3) social science. They are also allowed to take a variety of elective courses. The curricula are flexible enough to meet the needs of students who work toward double majors or combined degrees.
The department confers a certificate to each student at graduation based on her/his area of study. All students learn how to conduct research, write a thesis, and present a paper. They are also guided in comparing and contrasting Japanese literature and culture with those of other countries.
