Providence University holds the distinction of being the first university in Taiwan with a Department of Ecology. The forward-looking department is committed to the promotion of environmental ethics, nurturing of open-minded professionals, respecting and preserving the cultures of indigenous peoples, the preservation of Taiwan's natural environment, conducting research of ecological matters and collaborating with other academic disciplines and sectors of society.
The department has also earned distinction for launching environmental management programs that integrate both value philosophy and ecology. All of the courses in the department call forth social responsibility. Students are expected to travel and seek deeper levels of local immersion in Taiwanese society and to facilitate communication between Taiwan and the world community.
Providing non-conventional instructional settings, the Department of Ecology provides a vigorous and comprehensive learning environment. It crosses local and national barriers and promotes awareness of Natures Equity. Graduates of the department are envisioned to become tireless advocates for environmental stewardship and to bring hope for continued progress in the cultivation of the culture of nature, eventually rectifying human indecency and exploring to-be-found human virtues.
