Courses in the Department of Financial and Computational Mathematics are designed to prepare students for a competitive work force. The department constantly seeks to cooperate across disciplines and to establish innovative projects with institutions such as the Taichung Veterans General Hospital, the Open Power Information Co., Ltd, and the Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training. It also encourages academic exchanges by holding conferences and inviting distinguished scholars throughout the world for speeches or short-term visits. .
In addition, professional laboratories in specific research fields including Linux Cluster, Bio-Math and Data Mining are available to students. Individuals in the department may be certified as members of the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) and as a Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE). Furthermore, students have reported that they enjoy working towards double majors. For example, some have chosen to major in Financial and Computational Mathematics and Finance or Financial and Computational Mathematics and Computer Science and Informatics Engineering during their four years at Providence.
