Introduction

PU is a Catholic University which holds true to its motto “Virtus cum Scientia” (Virtue with Knowledge), and aims to become “a university that pays the most consideration to its students”. The university has 5 colleges with 21 faculties including the College of foreign languages and Literature, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Sciences, College of Management, College of Computing and Informatics. It also has the Center of Teacher Education, Humanities Education Center, Chinese Language Education Center, Physical Education Office and Center of General Education. Other than the regular education system, the College of Continuing Education strives to fulfill its vision of lifelong education among citizens and promote education, education and professional training. While at the same time address citizens’ lifelong learning and recurrent education needs and help them enhance their professional capabilities. Therefore PU especially established a separate college for continuing education, so that people in Central Taiwan, from all walks of life, can achieve a broader further education.

Objectives of Promoting Education

This College holds true to is direction of “Christian Spirit, Excellent Teachers, Dedicated Services”, integrating the university’s professional teachers and rich teaching resources and facilities to provide diversified courses and excellent teaching quality. Hopefully everyone in all corners of Central interested in continuing their education is given an opportunity. The College’s main development areas are:

1. Encourage lifelong learning and recurrent education among citizens while integrating the University’s professional and responsible teachers and resources. The College currently has master courses (EMBA), bachelor courses and professional courses.
2. Strengthen the faculties’ unique teaching traits and open non-related courses.
3. Elevate skills and employment abilities by opening a variety of certification courses to train all types of technical workers in all professions.
4. Enhance citizens’ industrial competitiveness, reinforcing industry and academic cooperation with external businesses, opening related further education and training courses for working professionals.
5. Hold true to responsibility towards serving society while aggressively implementing government measures such as subsidies for targeted citizens, organize professional trainings, further education and expertise training etc opportunities for current working professionals. Ultimately to display the benevolence of the Taiwanese government.

Localize education promotion efforts and strive to integrate external teaching resources from other counties and cities such as the Miaoli County, Changhua City and County, Nantou County and City etc. Collaborating with local government divisions to open professional courses for the benefit of local citizens, ensuring that PU’s teaching resources are fully localized and sharing higher education resources with other related educational bodies.

Future Vision

The College has for the past few years aimed to provide localized services and encourage 2nd expertise training, especially in remote areas and among minorities. Hopefully with our abundant teaching resources, we can spread our resources to areas in need; this will help reduce the differences between cities and villages. Therefore we hope that in the future:

1. Open more diversified courses

• We maintain 2 directions when opening courses- further education and professional skills, we have bachelor and master (EMBA) programs, credited courses, teacher education, teacher training, foreign language learning, computer and IT, certification courses and provide citizens who are keen to study with further learning opportunities.

2. Improve quality

• Boasting an excellent group of teachers, top-notch learning facilities and impeccable service quality from PU’s College of Sciences, College of foreign languages and Literature, College of humanities and social sciences, College of Computer Science and Information Management and College of Management. By leveraging the university’s first-rate teachers, learning facilities and resources, we aim to provide citizens in Central Taiwan with a channel towards lifelong learning and continuing their education.

3. Customize professional learning

• By providing enterprise diagnosis, professional planning, customized but sustainable learning to professionals from all walks of life. The College aims to inculcate academic self-restraint among its students, increase knowledge interaction and experience sharing, extend networking opportunities and help to enhance their career competitiveness in every way.

4. Localize services

Deeply rooted to the local community, the College has service points in enterprises and remote areas. The university is located in Sha Lu, the earliest and only Catholic University in Taichung County, is an important point along the coastline. Under the Catholic ideals of “Truth, Goodness, Beauty and Holiness", the university is filled with an atmosphere of love and humanity. It strives its best to cultivate these characteristics, enabling the university, students and teachers to go into society and start contributing.
