"Opportunities come to people who are prepared." On May 5, 2011, there was a job fair on campus with more than 60 well-known companies participating. Some of the companies conducted on-site employment interviews so students could get a job right after graduation. Vice-President of Providence University, Zhou Wen-Guang, encouraged students to develop their most outstanding expertise and a positive attitude, the keys to winning a job in the future.
The recovering economy has provided for more job opportunities in Taiwan. Popular incorporations like DinTaiFung, Lalu Hotel and AU Optronic Corporation attracted many students to inquire and fill out resumes. Some of the corporations' staff-members gave tips for writing a good resume, an autobiography, a curriculum vitae, and for cultivating useful interview skills. Also, Providence University provided occupational adaptive tests and consultation to help students know what skills are needed for a certain job.
"From passive to active counseling and career exploration, increased employability is Providence University's goal," said Vice- President Zhou Wen-Guang. He urged students to have an interview with the particular corporations they have an interest in. Through their first contact with the corporations, students can be helped to understand better the conditions of the workplace.
There was also a competition on students’ professional manners, which provided the students with some practical experience and helped build self- confidence. This year, there were 49 contestants altogether.
"Being prepared is the key to winning" said Chiuan Yi-Wen, Director of the Human Resource Department of Great Eastern Resin Industrial Corporation. Chiuan suggested to students that they collect information about the corporation to which they are applying, and then rehearse well in order to have as good as possible performance during the interview. He reminded the students that punctuality is very important, as is also the wearing of appropriate attire and jewelry. Last, but not least, he exhorted the students to come for the interview with a sincere attitude and with a smile; these are indispensible.
Chen Shih-Ying, a student from the Accounting Department commented: "Attending the job fair is different from the Internet Job Bank. The fair gives us a chance to have face-to-face contact with the corporations and to ask them our questions directly."
