The Work of Christmas Begins with the New Year

The coming of our Savior is cause for deep gratitude, as is the beginning of a New Year - a chance to start anew with thankfulness for the countless blessings and the cherished relationships in our lives.

Christmas is celebrated with joyful sharing. We thank all the students who participated in the campus caroling especially the Guitar Club, Japanese Department with Ms Hamaya Masako and Ms Chen Shu Fong, International students of Argentina, Philippines, Mainland China  Korea, Malaysia, USA, and Vietnam. Thanks also to our students who played Santa’s role: Ming Chen, Wang Le and Lily Zhang.
The Campus Ministry Office  collected donations for charitable agencies like Miracle Place,  organized  students to  go caroling in three prison sites and  in Kuan Tien Senior’s  Nursing Home; sponsored the Christmas Gala and  the reception after the Christmas Mass,  just to mention a few  examples of how  the spirit of Christmas was initiated on campus.

At the Christmas Mass, Mr. Wu Xing Guo, Captain of the Providence Campus Guard, was baptized with the name, Augustine. Sister Celeste Tsai walked with Mr. Wu during the process of preparation. The Providence University Catholic  Association warmly welcomes  Mr. Wu and begs God’s  blessing upon him and his family.

The season of Christmas is a reminder of Jesus’ coming to save the world and to raise the dignity of humankind. We are all invited to start the New Year in carrying out this reminder in our simple ways:

To more consciously promote a peaceful world;
To be more aware of the closeness of God’s love for each one;
To take a few moments of quiet, silent meditation to cultivate peace starting with oneself;
To practice what we have learned about life;
To keep a good sense of humor;
To be mindful of our responsibility to cooperate in protecting the earth;
May we welcome this New Year with hope, creating more beautiful memories for a life time. Let the work of Christmas begin!

Happy New Year to all!
